Savannah’s Mother shares, “The day Savannah was born changed our lives in so many ways. The minute she arrived, and we saw her for the first time, we noticed her beautiful red hair. Since her father is Caucasian with dark brown hair and her mother is of Asian descent, red was not what we would have expected, but neither was the possibility of her having Down syndrome.”

INDIANA DISABILITY RIGHTS ATTORNEYS WILL BE ON CALL ON ELECTION DAY

who have any issue casting their vote. The #HoosiersVote Hotline will be open
during polling hours, 6:00AM - 6:00PM local time.
Exercising
your right to vote is an essential element of your civil rights. Every person
who has registered to vote and has proper identification should be able to cast
their vote privately and independently at their polling place or through

or non-paved surfaces such as gravel or grass as the only path to the polling
location;

the polling location;
Lack

machine.
Know
your rights. If you require assistance in order to cast your vote, a poll
worker may assist you or you may bring someone with you to assist you. The
person who assists you cannot be your employer or your union representative.
You must request assistance before you enter the voting booth.
If
you are have questions or are unable to cast your vote privately and
independently during this election, Indiana Disability Rights is here to help! Call our hotline at 800.622.4845. Your
vote counts!

October is Down syndrome Awareness Month
Down syndrome occurs in one out of
every 691 babies born. When a parent learns that their baby is going to be born
with Down syndrome or has been born with Down syndrome, they may and do often
feel anger, despair, guilt, shame, rejection of their baby, depression,
helplessness or they may feel happy, loving and accepting. No matter what a
parent feels once learning of the diagnosis, every parent wants more
information. Down Syndrome Indiana
provides comprehensive New Parent Packets and a robust support network for
parents that have a newborn with Down syndrome or have just learned of the
diagnosis before their child is born.
If you are a service provider or a parent and would like to request a New Parent Packet, please visit: http://www.dsindiana.org/RequestAParentPacket.php. A Spanish version of the packet is also available.
